The Crown and Bridge Process

Initial Consultation

Undergo a complete oral examination. If X-rays are required, they are taken.

Impressions & Temporary Crown

Next, the supporting teeth are reduced to accept crowns and impressions are made. A dental laboratory will use these impressions as a model to create the bridge.

Temporary Crown

Your teeth are then fitted with a temporary crown or bridge to protect your teeth until the next appointment.

Your Final Crown or Bridge

At the second appointment, your cosmetic dentist will make any necessary adjustments before cementing your crown or bridge permanently.

Natural Color and Fit

The dentist will take time to color match the bridge so it looks natural, check your chewing and biting for accuracy and ensure the bridge conforms to the surrounding tissue.

Why Crowns or Bridges?

Crowns are used to repair large fillings or cover broken teeth and root canals.

Crowns help to strengthen and restore or improve the appearance of your natural teeth. In addition to strengthening a tooth to accommodate the attachment of a bridge, crowns serve many functions. One of the most common is to support the tooth when there is no longer sufficient tooth structure left to place a filling.

Their ability to make crowns in house made for a more accurate sizing of the crown which when installed didn’t require bite adjustment. Crowns are a full-coverage, 360-degree restoration solution for damaged teeth. We recommend crowns for teeth that are likely to break in the future or for teeth that are too damaged to be corrected by a composite filling.
New patient appointments vary depending on health, ongoing appointments usually take about an hour.
There are a variety of reasons why a crown might be a part of your oral health treatment plan:
- A crown is sometimes used when a large cavity or filling exists or if you have a tooth that’s had a root canal that needs further reinforcement.
- You might have a discolored tooth that you want to brighten up, but a Veneer just isn’t the right choice.
- Cracked or excessively worn teeth can sometimes need crowns.
Our crown process typically takes two appointments. It is common for your teeth to be mildly sensitive to extreme temperatures for a few weeks after the procedure.
